South Memphis Farmers Market

What is the South Memphis Farmers Market (SMFM)?

South Memphis Farmers Market is the first project of South Memphis Revitalization Plan (SoMeRAP). SoMeRAP is a resident-led effort to transform South Memphis into one of the region’s premier urban neighborhoods of choice by mobilizing local residents, institutions, and their allies to implement a compre-hensive economic and community development strategy. One of the key areas of focus in the plan is healthy living, including access to healthy foods in the South Memphis community; throughout the planning process residents consistently identified access to healthy foods as one of their highest priorities. As a result of the collaborative efforts of South Memphis residents, The Works, Inc. and the University of Memphis, the South Memphis Farmers Market opened for the first time on July 15, 2010.
