St. Andrew A.M.E. Church
The mission of St. Andrew A.M.E. Church is to Minister to Memphis – spirit, soul and body. The church is pastored by Senior Pastor, Rev. Byron C. Moore, MPC,DD and Executive Pastor, Rev. Sharon Moore, MPC.
Over the years, The Saint, as it is affectionately called, has had an incredible impact on the lives of its members, the people in South Memphis and throughout Shelby County. This year, St. Andrew’s back-to-school ministry gave 1,325 pairs of new shoes, 1,400 packs of school supplies and 400 backpacks to children throughout the community. The church donated property for the use of the South Memphis Farmer’s Market; and through grants secured, helped seniors and persons on public assistance increase their capacity to purchase fresh produce. The Plough Foundation awarded a $250,000 grant to The Works, Inc., the St. Andrew Community Development Corporation, to provide a permanent site for the South Memphis Farmers Market, including capital upgrades to the outdoor shelter and parking lot and a total renovation of the building – to house a commercial demonstration kitchen, a small fresh produce “grocery store” and restrooms.
The church’s other accomplishments include the following:
- building affordable housing
- providing social service outreach
- community education
- childcare and youth education
- community baby shower for new and expecting mothers
